Nokian Tyres product launch: Introducing the One

Thanks to their ability to perform year-round, all-season tires are the most common tires in the United States. This means that there’s a ton of competition between manufacturers that are vying to attract the same drivers on the market.

Nokian Tyres, the Finnish tire maker that’s known for their excellence in engineering winter tires, might have just found some open road to stand out amongst the crowd with their newest tire, the One.

Produced by Nokian plants in both Tennessee and Europe, the One is designed for use on a wide variety of passenger vehicles including coupes, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and minivans.

But what makes this new One, the One?

More than ONE benefit

The Nokian One is a tire that features a multitude of benefits that make it stand out from the all-season tire crowd. Designed with wide grooves in the tread that quickly remove water, the One has incredible traction and handling performance on wet roads. The tire also features dense siping on its shoulders and grooves to create additional biting edges, increasing grip.

The One is Nokian’s first non-winter passenger tire to include the use of Aramid Fibers - the same material that created bulletproof vests - to reinforce the sidewall, which guards the tire against road hazards and other accidental damage to help ensure a longer tread life. Clearly a tire that’s built to last, Nokian also offers 80,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty on the One.

Unfortunately, after winter weather runs its course and wreaks havoc on roads, potholes are inevitable. Knowing this, Nokian backed the One with their one year Pothole Protection Warranty which states that “if a road hazard damages the tire beyond repair, Nokian Tyres will replace it at no cost” after purchasing a set of One tires.

The Pothole Protection Warranty works like this:

  • Take your car to an authorized dealer
  • The dealer will inspect the tire & confirm:
    • Proof of purchase
    • The tire cannot be repaired
    • The tire is less than one year since purchase
    • The remaining tread is greater than 60%
  • The dealer then supplies a new tire at no cost to you

Nokian Tyres is also focused on sustainable practices wherever possible. They made sure the One was designed with low rolling resistance which helps to boost fuel efficiency while also minimizing CO2 emissions that harm the environment. Even better, the Nokian’s Dayton, TN facility is the first in the world to earn an LEED v4 Silver Certification for its energy efficient design and use of solar power.

One vs eNTYRE 2.0

Released in 2015, the Nokian eNTYRE 2.0 has had a long run of success and was an ideal choice for drivers of passenger cars who wanted a tire that performs year round and won’t break the bank. Still, the One improved on the eNTYRE 2.0 in a few key areas:

  • Unlike the eNTYRE 2.0, which could have a 60, 75, or 80,000 mile limited warranty depending on the tire’s UTQG rating, the One has an 80,000 mile limited warranty across the board. This means that once a customer purchases a set of Nokian One tires, they know that the tire is built to last for 80,000 miles without having to consult the tire’s sidewall for a UTQG rating.
  • The One is Nokian’s first non-winter passenger tire to include the company’s Aramid sidewall technology, which means that the One’s reinforced sidewalls provide more protection against road hazards, curbs, and potholes than the eNTYRE 2.0’s.
  • Like previously mentioned, the One is backed by Nokian’s Pothole Protection Warranty for a full year whereas the eNTYRE 2.0 was released before this program launched, meaning that the tire is not eligible for the warranty.
  • Lastly, compared with the eNTYRE 2.0, the One features far more tire sipes for better traction and grip in dry, wet, and winter weather conditions. While the eNTYRE 2.0 was intentionally designed with less siping than its predecessor, the One’s extra sipes were added to help boost grip, specifically in wet and winter weather.

It is worth pointing out that the eNTYRE 2.0 does have a few strengths compared to the One. The One features Aramid Sidewalls, which includes added fibers to guard against damage but doesn’t reduce road noises whereas the eNTYRE 2.0 with Silent Sidewall Technology and Silent Groove Design, creates a quiet, comfortable ride by absorbing noise and vibration waves.

Nokian One on Hybrid Vehicle

As an all-season tire, the One is really meant for drivers who see dry, wet, and winter weather conditions throughout the year. Like most all-season tires, the One isn’t ideal for driving in deep snow and thick ice, so drivers who frequently deal with these elements might need to purchase a set of winter tires like the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 or all weather tires like the Nokian WR G4 to get through these tougher conditions.

Starting at just over $80 per tire, a set of four Nokian One tires typically costs at least $320, making it a strong choice for daily drivers who need reliable traction and performance all year long.

Think of it this way: you need a new set of tires for the sedan, CUV, SUV or minivan that frequently transports you and your kids to wherever you’re going, and the One provides the excellent year-round traction that’s ideal without forcing you to break the bank.
